Dr. Manuel Pun of PriMed Connecticut Heart and Vascular Center Interviewed on “Good Morning Connecticut” |
Another EECP® Therapy Week Event as part of American Heart Month
March 1, 2012 (Westbury, New York) - In recognition of February as American Heart Month and the growing acceptance of the public to learn more about these vital heart health issues, Dr. Manuel Pun, a cardiologist at PriMed Connecticut Health and Vascular Center in Bridgeport, Connecticut was a guest on “Good Morning Connecticut” with host Chris Velardi on WTNH-TV 8 in New Haven on February 18, 2012.
Dr. Pun, who is Board certified in Cardiology and Internal Medicine discussed the importance of Enhanced External Counterpulsation (EECP®) Therapy for patients suffering from angina symptoms associated with coronary artery disease and congestive heart failure. The most common signs or symptoms of angina discussed were chest pain, fatigue and shortness of breath, as they signal potential health problems that need to be addressed by a doctor. “Men and women display angina symptoms differently as women usually have less symptoms than men. EECP® is an effective outpatient treatment that helps both men and women. Studies show that pressure waves in the cardiovascular system resulting from the inflatable cuffs worn by the patient during treatment enables the chemicals and hormonal changes that occur from EECP® treatment to promote healthy blood vessels” stated Dr. Pun. Angina patients who have completed a course of EECP® treatments have reported a distinct reduction or elimination of angina symptoms while noting a significant increase in stamina and the ability to enjoy a wide range activities that were put “on hold” due to suffering from various angina symptoms.
Dr. Pun further discussed the EECP® treatment procedure and said “EECP® is like a passive form of exercise, and by taking angina away, we have started a segue for the patient to do more and to obtain better health”. The interview concluded with important diet tips for a healthy heart.
Dr. Pun is a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology, and in addition to PriMed Connecticut Heart & Vascular Center, is an Assistant Clinical Professor in the Department of Medicine at the University of Connecticut School of Medicine. EECP® Therapy is an FDA cleared, safe, effective and proven outpatient treatment option covered by Medicare and most private insurers.
